Year 1 Explore the Senses

In Science, Year 1 have been exploring the five senses. Taking advantage of the lovely weather, the children headed outdoors to investigate what they could hear, touch, smell and see on the playground. From listening carefully to the sounds of nature to feeling different textures and noticing the scents around our school grounds, the children had a great time using their senses to explore. The children carefully recorded their observations and findings in their books, helping them reflect on what they had discovered through each of their senses.

Last week, the children particularly enjoyed a special tasting lesson linked to their learning about taste. With their sense of sight taken away, they became food detectives, tasting blueberries, carrots and cookies without knowing what they were trying. They used descriptive language to talk about the flavours before making their guesses, and recording their results in their books. It was wonderful to see their excitement and curiosity as they put their senses to the test.

Year 1 have really enjoyed this hands-on topic and have shown great enthusiasm as they discover more about how our senses help us understand the world around us.

Well done Year 1!
