Year 5 Pupils Explore Time with Sundial Experiment

In Science, our Year 5 pupils have been putting their scientific skills to the test by creating and calibrating their own sundials. This hands-on experiment gave them the opportunity to understand how the movement of the sun can be used to track time, reinforcing their learning in an interactive way.

The children carefully positioned their sundials, ensuring the gnomon was pointing north. Throughout the day, they marked the changing shadow positions at different times, gaining a practical understanding of how the Earth’s rotation influences time measurement.

As part of this activity, the pupils demonstrated the HPL value of collaboration. Working together, they discussed their findings, shared observations, and supported one another in accurately recording their results.

This experiment not only enhanced their scientific knowledge but also encouraged teamwork and critical thinking.
