KS1 Sunflowers and Stormy Days Workshop

This week, Key Stage 1 children enjoyed a wonderful visit from Altru Drama, the team behind Sunflowers and Stormy Days — a brand-new performance and workshop all about feelings, emotions, and wellbeing.

Using the metaphor of a garden, children were introduced to two gnome characters, Blossom and Sprocket, who showed them how gardens and people need care, attention, and love to flourish. Through storytelling, music, and fun activities, pupils learned important lessons about resilience, kindness, and how to look after both their minds and bodies.

The performance ties directly into the theme for Children's Mental Health Week 2025: Know Yourself, Grow Yourself, and has been specially designed for Reception to Year 2 children. Today's session also included a follow-up workshop and a resource pack full of ideas to continue supporting wellbeing in the classroom.

During the visit, children explored:

  • The 5 Ways to Wellbeing

  • How to bounce back when things don’t go to plan

  • Managing big feelings like anger

  • The link between physical and mental health

  • The importance of kindness and support

  • Easy strategies to take care of their wellbeing

The pupils were completely engaged, joining Blossom and Sprocket on their garden adventure.

Sunflowers and Stormy Days has given our children a positive, memorable experience that opened up important conversations around feelings and self-care.  Thank you Altru Drama, the children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop.
