Phonics Workshops 2025
Successful Phonics Workshop Engages Reception and Year 1 Parents
Parents and carers of Reception and Year 1 pupils were welcomed into school for an interactive phonics workshop aimed at strengthening home-school collaboration in early reading development. The event provided a valuable opportunity for families to gain insight into how phonics is taught in school and how they can support their child’s reading journey at home.
During the workshop, parents observed a phonics lesson delivered to their child by their class teacher. This allowed them to see first-hand the techniques and strategies used to develop early reading skills, including sound recognition, blending, and segmenting. Teachers also explained the importance of phonics in building reading confidence and fluency.
Following the lesson, parents and carers had the chance to sit down and read with their child, reinforcing the skills just taught. This one-on-one reading time encouraged children to share their learning while giving parents practical experience in supporting their child's reading development.
Feedback from parents was very positive, with many expressing appreciation for the opportunity to better understand phonics teaching methods and take away useful strategies to use at home.
The school is looking forward to hosting another session next week, giving more families the chance to take part. The school hopes to continue offering similar workshops to further support pupils and their families on their reading journey.
